Mentoring Skills for Career Development

Methodology:
On-the-Job Training that allows mentees to learn by actually performing a specific job or task. The mentee will perform the job and learn as he goes. On-the-job training can be structured by using hands-on application supported by classroom-type instruction. The advantages of this method are: immediate feedback on performance; swift remediation if task is not performed to standard; Job Rotation as role-playing method: The students will be asked to go into a role of employees of various jobs and to perform various different tasks unrelated to their original jobs. The advantages of this method are: increases skills; opens new opportunities to participants if they want or have to change their professional field; Providing information about effective mentoring practices; Clarifying five most commonly used techniques among mentors: accompanying, sowing, catalyzing, showing, harvesting; Questions-orientated sessions; Discussions responding to the cultural diversity of participants; Appreciative enquiry; Reflective and lateral thinking sessions; Brainstorming; Role modeling-‘teaching by example and learning by imitation’; Project maps; Mind-Mapping; Cause-Effect Diagrams; Team-building session.
